Eventually, you will get that first sale, but it may take some patients. Here are some of the ways that you can increase your chances of getting that first sale sooner.
Your Family & Friends
Your family and friends are going to be an invaluable marketing tool when you first launch your store. They may want to buy products from you themselves, just to support you, but more likely they’ll tell their friends and eventually someone will need something that your offering. Any sales organization will tell you that you start with your family and friends and then network from there.
Advertising used to be something that only the most successful businesses could do because it was expensive to advertise on television, radio or newspaper. But with the Internet, advertising has gotten quite a bit cheaper. You may be able to find a website that appeals directly to your customers and advertise there for a very low price. In addition, there is Facebook advertising, Google Adwords and various other low-cost methods of getting the word out there.
Deeply Discount or Give Away Products
Another method that you can use to get your first sale is to give out huge discounts. Obviously, when you make your first sale you are going to make very much money on it and in fact may lose money. However, the word will spread and you may be of the make a profit on other products that you are discounting. Giving away products doesn’t seem to make sense either but some companies set aside a certain budget for marketing and then use that to make up the cost of the items that they’re giving away. Then they advertise the free items in describe them as “for a limited time only” which usually brings quite a bit of traffic some of which may by something else.
Make Some YouTube Videos
Finally, you could make some YouTube videos. They can be advice videos or you could just be talking about how you are able to get your store off the ground. Adding links to your store may bring in traffic that will give you your for sale.
Ideas for Selling Physical Products on a Subscription Basis
When you hear the word ‘subscription’ you will often think of a magazine or perhaps a subscription site. In other words, you tend to think of this as being an informational product.
But what if you have a physical product? Maybe you even have a physical store from which to sell it?
In this case, there are still plenty of great ways to set up a recurring payment scheme and thereby enjoy a much more stable and much more passive income. Here are some examples of ways you can use this system with a physical product.
If you sell anything from your website that you would describe as being disposable then a subscription can be a perfect way to sell.
Great examples include food items that might run out quickly, face creams or supplements such as protein shakes. In all these cases, your buyers can ensure that they get a new product each time they run out and thus never have to worry about running out again!
There are many types of physical product that lend themselves well to being sold in a package and this can be another opportunity to provide a useful service by selling a subscription. A popular example of this for instance is to sell clothes in packs that provide a ready-made outfit. Several diets have recently become popular by providing the ingredients for meals in a box that’s ready to make and eat and that’s calorie controlled.
You don’t even have to produce these products yourself. This is a great way to sell packages as a reseller for instance – and that way there’s no risk because you received the payment in advance!
If your customers are the forgetful types, then why not let them set up a yearly payment for a gift? This way they can send flowers, chocolates or jewelry every year on their anniversary for instance!
Some Tips to Increase Your Sales
If you have an ecommerce store of any kind, then whether you’re selling a digital product, a physical product or a subscription, there are a few techniques you can employ to make even more sales. And it’s all about the way you set up your store…
Use a Red ‘Buy Now’ Button
If you make your buy now button red, research shows that it will get more clicks than if you were to make it any other color.
Make Multiple Bundles at different Price Points
One of the best ways to sell more products is to give your customers more control over the way they want to buy them. If you create multiple ‘bundles’ for instance, this might mean that you let your customers buy more items at once and make bigger savings or choose to buy just a few individual items from your larger batch and thereby spend less money in total.
Either way, you can help your customers feel as though they’re saving money or making a savvy decision while still buying from you!
Sell Some Very Cheap Items
If you are trying to sell a very expensive product from your ecommerce store, then this means you’re essentially trying to accomplish two very difficult things. The first difficult thing is trying to get your customers to part with a lot of cash and to buy something big. The second? You’re trying to earn their trust and get them to spend money with you when they’ve never dealt with your service before.
Don’t try and do both these things at once! Sell a cheap item and that way you can build trust – then you can move onto more expensive items later.
Offer Free Samples
Better yet, why not offer a free sample? If you sell a membership site then you can offer a free membership with reduced features or you can offer a free, full membership for a limited period.
